February 20th, 2011 Roll Laminators and Roll Laminating Film Supplies
A roll laminator is a type of laminating machine more suited for cases where there is a need to laminate bigger-sized documents. And instead of laminating pouches, roll-type laminators make use of roll laminating film. The advantage of roll laminating systems, aside from the fact that it can be used to protect documents or print material bigger than the usual office letter-sized documents or photos, is that it can also laminate larger numbers of documents.
Most industrial-grade laminators make use of roll systems because of its ability to work on larger-scale lamination jobs. Hence, if you are looking for a heavy-duty machine for a mass production and professional type of operation, then you will want to look for this type of equipment.
The world of roll laminator systems have gone a long way and like everything else in today’s technology-powered society, newer machines have also adopted many advanced features that was not in the old laminators of yore. Many systems have incorporated computer processors that have made these equipments smarter and easier to use. Today, many designs incorporate LCD control displays that make operation easier and more precision and with minimal wastage. Gone are the days of misaligned and cloudy lamination (due to lack of temperature control for thermal systems) because technology has made these machines smarter and much less prone to mistakes and able to control even the temperature.
Roll laminator systems don’t only come in such advanced versions, by the way. They still have versions that won’t necessarily suit a large scale operation as there are still models that can be used in a small office or home setting where they are used to laminate documents larger than the standard-sized 9.5-inch wide documents. Some models even come in manual, hand-cranked cold laminator systems that were very popular in the yesteryears when modern automated feeding systems were still not in style.
Roll laminating film sheets are different from its pouch counterparts because the former are lengthy sheets of plastic laminating material used to feed a roll laminator machine while the latter are film sheets that have been cut up to the size of common documents like letter-sized documents, 4×6 photographic print, etc., and are simple fed into pouch laminators.
There are also self adhesive roll laminating films that will be suitable for cold laminating systems or for machines that offer dual laminating functionality (both hot and cold).
Thickness of these sheets ranges from 1.5, 3, 5, 7 and 10 mil.
